It Started With a Running Club
The Bronte Harbour Classic didn’t begin in a boardroom. It started on the roads of Bronte.
The Bronte Runners Club has been bringing people together in this corner of Oakville for years — weekend runs, group training, friendly encouragement for first-timers and veterans alike. What began as a small gathering of neighbours who liked to run has grown into one of the most active running communities in the region.
You might know us best from the Terry Fox Run. In 2025, Team WIN/Primal Athletics/Bronte Runners raised $27,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation — the largest fundraising group in Oakville that year. That’s not something that happens by accident. It happens because of people who show up, who care about their community, and who run — not just for themselves, but for something bigger.
The Idea
Every year, the group would travel to other races — Burlington, Mississauga, Toronto — and come back with the same thought: Why doesn’t Bronte have its own race?
Not just any race. Something with a real identity. Something that felt like Bronte — the harbour, the water, the park. An event families could make into a Father’s Day tradition.
That’s the origin of the Bronte Harbour Classic.
Co-directors Greg Kowalczyk and Charles J. Sathmary — both Bronte Runners co-leads — spent months pulling together the right team to make it happen. Charles brings elite-level credentials: he ran a 2:13:07 marathon, a sub-4-minute mile, and has competed at the highest levels of Canadian distance running. Greg brings the community side: he’s been co-leading the club and knows what Bronte runners actually want from a local event. Read more about the full organizing team →
They brought in Greg Pace as Race Advisor — a man who’s been directing Burlington’s beloved Moon in June Road Race for over 30 years, and who was a founding president of Triathlon Ontario. If you want to build something that lasts, you learn from the people who’ve already done it.
Why Father’s Day
Father’s Day felt right for a reason that’s hard to explain but easy to feel.
It’s a day already tied to doing something together — getting outside, being active, making a memory. A 5K with your family on a Sunday morning along the waterfront, followed by a festival in the park. Kids running their own 1K. Live music. Local food. The lake in the background. What We’re Building
The Bronte Harbour Classic is not just a race. It’s an all-day waterfront festival — vendors, entertainment, kids activities, and a community celebration that begins at the start gun and goes until 3 PM.
Every participant crosses the finish line and walks into a party. Explore the full 5K race details →
Proceeds support the Oakville Dads Community Fund through the Oakville Community Foundation — a local charity doing real work in this community. One hundred percent of donations stay local.
