The moment a dad
never forgets.
Picture it: your child at the start line, a little nervous, a lot excited — then they run. And when they cross that finish line and get that medal placed around their neck, they look up to find you. That look is everything.
The Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run is a 1-kilometre waterfront run along Bronte Harbour — short enough for any child, memorable enough for a lifetime. No pressure. No clocks. Just pure joy.
What Every Child Gets
Every registered child receives the full experience — no exceptions, no asterisks.

Medal Reveal
The Speak Squad Kids 1K Finisher Medal
Designed specifically for young runners. Not a scaled-down adult medal — a medal built for the moment a child first crosses a finish line.
The Front
FUN FINISHER!
Gold medal with a rainbow scalloped border and rainbow ribbon — every colour in the arc. Two cartoon kids celebrating at the Bronte waterfront, the lighthouse behind them. "FUN FINISHER!" in bold colour at the centre. The Speak Squad logo below.
The Back
"YOU DID AMAZING!"
Engraved in gold on the back — a smiling star, surrounded by stars, with "Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run" along the bottom arc. That's the first thing your child reads when they look down after crossing the line.
For Older Kids
Want the 5K Medal Instead?
Older kids who prefer the main 5K finisher medal — the antique-silver piece with the Bronte lighthouse sculpted in relief and the Mercedes-Benz star at the top, identical to what every adult 5K runner earns — can choose that at the finish line. No decision needed before race day. Just ask.

What Is the Speak Squad Kids 1K?
The Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run is a non-timed, non-competitive run designed for children ages 2 to 12. There are no clocks, no pressure, and no results boards — just kids having fun, running with friends, and earning their very own finisher medal.
Parents and guardians are welcome to run alongside younger children. The route is short, safe, and fully marshalled along the waterfront.
After the run, families can enjoy the full Father's Day Waterfront Festival with a kids zone, live music, food, and more.

Parent Questions
Does my child get a medal?
Yes — every child who crosses the finish line receives the Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Finisher medal. Gold with a rainbow border and rainbow ribbon, "FUN FINISHER!" on the front and "YOU DID AMAZING!" engraved on the back. No minimum time, no exceptions.
Can older kids choose the 5K medal instead?
Yes. Older kids who prefer the main 5K antique-silver finisher medal — the one with the Bronte lighthouse in relief and the Mercedes-Benz star at the top — can choose it at the finish line. No decision needed before race day. Just ask when crossing.
Can I run with my child?
Yes. Parents and guardians are encouraged to run alongside younger children. You do not need a separate registration to accompany your child on the 1K course.
Is it timed?
No. The Speak Squad Kids 1K is intentionally non-timed. The focus is on fun, encouragement, and the joy of crossing the finish line.
What if my child is under 2?
Children under 2 are welcome to participate in a stroller pushed by a parent or guardian. Registration is still required.
Is the course safe?
The course is fully marshalled, flat, and paved. It is a short loop near the start/finish area at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park.
June 21 Sun Protection Tip for Families
Oakville's UV Index in late June typically reaches 7–9 — high enough that your child needs proper protection, not just a quick sunscreen spray. The SunUp app has a family mode that calculates a separate burn time for your child based on their skin type and the day's UV forecast. Check it before you leave the house.
A UV Index of 6.7 — like the reading captured in Oakville on May 23 — is classified as High Risk, meaning unprotected skin can begin to burn in under 30 minutes. SunUp includes a built-in sunscreen timer: it tracks the current UV level and tells you exactly when it's time to reapply, so you're not guessing. And don't forget the hat — a wide-brim hat blocks direct UV from reaching the face and neck, where kids burn fastest.
