Every Child Who Finishes the Kids 1K Gets This Medal — Here It Is

Every child who crosses the Kids 1K finish line on June 21 takes this home.

No minimum pace. No qualifying time. No age cutoff. The Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run at the Mercedes-Benz Oakville Bronte Harbour Classic has one rule: cross the line, get the medal. That’s the whole deal.

We held the reveal until the medal was physically in our hands. It is. Here it is.

Quick Answer: The Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run finisher medal is gold with a rainbow scalloped border and rainbow ribbon. The front reads “FUN FINISHER!” with two celebrating kids and the Bronte lighthouse. The back is engraved “YOU DID AMAZING!” Every finisher earns one — no exceptions, no minimum time. Older kids who prefer the main 5K antique-silver medal (Bronte lighthouse + Mercedes-Benz star) can choose it at the finish line instead. The Kids 1K starts at 8:00 AM, June 21, 2026 at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, Oakville. Register your child here →

The Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run Medal

Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run Medal Reveal — every finisher earns one, Bronte Harbour Classic 2026, Oakville

Gold medal. Rainbow scalloped border. Rainbow ribbon — every colour in the arc, red through purple.

The front: “FUN FINISHER!” in bold, colourful letters at the centre. Two cartoon kids — arms up, celebrating — at the Bronte waterfront. The lighthouse behind them. The Speak Squad logo at the bottom. This medal was designed for the children who will wear it, not for adults who think about medals.

The back: Flip it over and it reads: “YOU DID AMAZING!” — engraved in gold, surrounded by stars and a smiling star face. “Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run” arcs along the bottom edge.

That’s what every finisher reads first. Not a time. Not a finishing position. That.

Every Finisher Earns One. No Exceptions.

There is no minimum pace. No cutoff time. No age minimum beyond being a child registered for the race.

Cross the finish line at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park on June 21, and the medal goes around your neck. That’s the only standard.

The Kids 1K is a fun run, not a competitive race. There are no categories, no rankings, no results table. The finish line is the whole point — and every child who reaches it gets exactly the same thing as the fastest kid in the field.

What Happens at the Finish Line

Picture it: your child rounds the last corner. The festival is going around them. The crowd at the finish — families who are waiting, people who just finished the 5K, spectators who came for the day — turns toward them.

They cross the line.

Someone places a rainbow-ribboned gold medal around their neck.

They look down and read: “YOU DID AMAZING!”

That’s it. That’s the moment. It takes about four seconds, and kids carry it for years. This is why the medal was designed the way it was — not as an afterthought, but as the point of the whole morning.

If you’re a parent, bring your phone. You’ll want the photo.

Older Kids: You Can Choose the 5K Medal

Some kids want the grown-up version. That’s fine — they can have it.

The 5K finisher medal — the antique-silver cast piece with the Bronte lighthouse sculpted in relief and the Mercedes-Benz star at the top — is available to Kids 1K finishers who prefer it. It’s the same medal every adult 5K runner earns. Older kids, especially those who’ve been watching mum or dad race for years, sometimes want that one.

Both medals are real. Both are earned the same way: cross the finish line.

Your child decides at the finish line. No choice required at registration.

About Speak Squad

The Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run is presented by Speak Squad — a Connecting Therapies program focused on speech, language, and building confidence in children. Their work is built around a simple idea: a child who can stand up and express themselves with confidence carries that ability into everything else they do.

Running a kilometre and finishing it in front of a crowd is one of those experiences. The start line, the distance, the finish — kids who’ve never raced before discover something about themselves in that sequence. The medal is the physical proof of it.

Speak Squad designed this medal specifically for that moment. The message on the back — “YOU DID AMAZING!” — is exactly what their programs say to kids every day.

After the Race

The finish line is 30 seconds from the festival. Cross it, collect the medal, and the Father’s Day Waterfront Festival is right there — food trucks, live music from 10 AM, the vendor expo, Nickelbrook beer garden, and the kids zone running all day.

Families who ran the 5K finish around 9:30 AM and walk straight into it. Kids who ran the 1K have had an extra half hour ahead of them. By the time the whole family is together, you’re already at one of the best spots in Oakville on Father’s Day.
