The first-ever Bronte Harbour Classic 5K sold out, sent more than 800 runners off the line on Father’s Day morning, and turned the Oakville waterfront into a festival from sunrise to mid-afternoon. For an inaugural event, June 21, 2026 went about as well as we could have hoped — and then some.
We’re writing this five days later, and the messages haven’t stopped. Runners, the Town, vendors, sponsors, families who came just to cheer. The most common one? “When’s the next one?”
Quick Answer: The inaugural Mercedes-Benz Oakville Bronte Harbour Classic 5K was held Sunday, June 21, 2026 (Father’s Day) at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park in Oakville. The race sold out, with 800+ runners in the 5K and 130+ kids in the Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run. Adam Schmidt and Sadie-Jane Hickson won the men’s and women’s open titles. Every finisher earned a custom medal, top finishers shared $1,600 in cash and 8 pairs of ON Running performance shoes, and all donations collected go to the Oakville Dads Community Fund. The 2027 race is already in planning.
Bronte Harbour Classic 2026 by the numbers
The inaugural Bronte Harbour Classic hit its Year One target and crossed the line on the other side of it. We set out to put 800 runners on the start line, and race day delivered.
- 800+ runners in the 5K
- 130+ kids in the Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run
- 1 sold-out inaugural event
- $1,600 in cash prizes plus 8 pairs of ON Running performance shoes awarded
- A custom finisher medal for every single runner — 5K and Kids 1K alike
Numbers are the easy part to report. What they don’t capture is the sound of that first gun, the red arch packed shoulder to shoulder, and a quiet residential street in Bronte turning into a starting corral at 8:30 in the morning.

The start: a packed line under the red arch
Race morning broke clear and warm. The Speak Squad Kids 1K Fun Run went off first at 8:00 AM — a wave of small runners and proud parents that set the tone for the whole day. Half an hour later, at 8:30, the 5K field stacked up under the Mercedes-Benz Oakville arch and ran out along the Oakville waterfront toward Coronation Park and back.
If you were anywhere near the line, you felt it. Eight hundred people leaning forward at once is a different thing than reading “800 registrations” on a dashboard. That’s the moment this stopped being a plan and became a real race.
Results: your 2026 champions
The competition up front was genuinely fast. Here are the open and masters champions from the inaugural Bronte Harbour Classic 5K:
- Men’s Open Champion: Adam Schmidt
- Women’s Open Champion: Sadie-Jane Hickson
- Masters Champions (35+): Martin McNally and Jodi Bryson
The top three open men and women each took home a share of the $1,600 cash purse, and our top open and masters (35+) finishers earned pairs of ON Running performance shoes. Every finisher — front of the pack to final stride — collected a custom antique-silver medal with the Bronte lighthouse on it.
You can see the complete top-three and every age-group placing in the official chip-timed results: full Bronte Harbour Classic 2026 results on Race Roster.
The festival made it more than a race
A 5K is over in twenty-some minutes for most people. The Bronte Harbour Classic was built to be a morning, not a moment. The waterfront festival ran from 8 AM to mid-afternoon: Natrilyte hydration on course and at the finish, a Fortinos-fueled food spread, live music, a Nickel Brook beer garden, and a row of local vendors set up along the harbour.
That mix is the part people keep mentioning. Families came for the Kids 1K and stayed for hours. Runners finished, grabbed a medal, and didn’t leave. The harbour did exactly what we hoped it would — it gave everyone a reason to hang around.
Every donation goes to Oakville Dads
The Bronte Harbour Classic is a community race, and the community showed up for our charity partner. All donations collected go to the Oakville Dads Community Fund, supporting local families across Oakville. To everyone who gave on top of their registration — thank you. That generosity is the kind of thing that makes an inaugural event feel like it already has roots.
Thank you — this took a village
This race happened because a lot of people decided to make it happen. As Race Co-Directors, Greg Kowalczyk and Charles J. Sathmary want to be clear about one thing: the credit belongs to the whole team.
To our founding organizing team and the volunteers who were out there before sunrise and stayed past the last finisher — none of this works without you.
To our title sponsor, Mercedes-Benz Oakville, and founding sponsor CIBC, thank you for betting on a first-year event. And to the full roster of partners who made the day possible — ON Running, Natrilyte, Fortinos, Nickel Brook Brewing, Rockstar Brokerage, MyCourier, Signarama Oakville, Barker Print Solutions, Be Active Physio, FilmCA, Global Citizen, Oakvest Group, Radix Gym, Runner’s Den Burlington, Speak Squad, the Bronte BIA, the Civitan Club of Oakville, and the Town of Oakville — you turned an idea into a real event on the Oakville calendar.
And to the Bronte Runners community, whose weekly runs along this exact waterfront are the reason this race exists at all: this one was always for you.
What’s next: Bronte Harbour Classic 2027
We’re already planning Year Two. The feedback has been loud and consistent, and it’s shaping what comes next. The three things we hear most:
- Add a 10K. Plenty of runners want a longer distance alongside the 5K. It’s on the table for 2027.
- More for the kids. The Speak Squad Kids 1K was a highlight — people want it bigger.
- More play. More festival, more music, more reasons to make a morning of it at the harbour.
Nothing’s locked yet, and we’ll announce 2027 dates and details when they’re ready. But the direction is clear: bigger, with more for everyone, and still rooted in Bronte.
